Pakistan beat South Africa by 23 runs in the first one-day international at Newlands on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series:

A 74-run partnership between debutants Bilawal Bhatti (39) and Anwar Ali (43) rescued the visitors from an embarrassing position at 131 for seven to take them to 218 in 12 overs.
