Siachen Rescue: German, Swiss Teams Arrive Pakistan

Three Swiss and six German experts have arrived Pakistan late on Monday night in order to assist Pakistani and US experts for the rescue of 135 Pakistan army personals, who were buried under an avalanche in Gayari sector of Siachen.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations(ISPR) press release, another disaster management team comprising 6 individuals along with necessary equipment from Germany will also reach Islamabad tonight.

286 soldiers including 60 civilians alongwith dozers and JCB (used for digging) are employed at the incident site for rescue operation. Effort is further being beefed up. They have so far cleared one platform measuring a 40 feet length, 30 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

5 helicopters are taking part in the operation while heavy machinery, additional manpower including technical experts from National Disaster Management Authority and Strategic Planning Division have been moved from Islamabad via C 130.
