Spinner Saeed Ajmal nominated for three top ICC awards

Pakistan spin bowler Saeed Ajmal is among the six players who have been nominated in three different categories for the LG ICC Awards 2012.

The six players include Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal, South Africa’s Hashim Amla, Australia captain Michael Clarke, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, England’s Alastair Cook and West Indies Stafanie Taylor.

Ajmal is one of the two players from Pakistan to be nominated for ICC ODI player of the year along with team mate Shahid Afridi.

He is also nominated for ICC Test cricketer of the year and ICC player of the year.

Other Pakistani players to be nominated for the awards are Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez for ICC spirit of cricket award and T20 performance of the year award for his performance against Zimbabwe on 16 September 2011.

Junaid Khan has been nominated for the ICC emerging player of the year award and umpire Aleem Dar has been nominated for ICC umpire of the year.

A five-man panel which included Clive Lloyd, Marvan Ataparru, Carl Hooper, Tom Moody and Clare Connor put the list together and the awards will take place on September 15.

Stefanie Taylor of the West Indies became the first woman to be nominated for the ICC cricketer of the year award.
