ISLAMABAD: A three-day second anti-polio vaccination campaign of the year 2012 will start from today to administer drops to children under age of five years.
According to an official of National polio eradication Program, a total of 76587 trained house-to-house vaccination teams, 5184 trained transit teams at markets, bus terminals etc. and 9723 fixed points trained vaccination teams will target approximately 33.4 million children.
He said 20104 supervisors and 1830 medical officers will supervise these teams. Social and community mobilization already held at the district and union council level in this regard, he added.
“All of us should take the responsibility to play our due role to ensure every child is vaccinated during the upcoming campaign and no single child misses the vaccination with two drops of polio vaccine,” he said.
He said that the government and development partners are putting all efforts to make Pakistan a polio-free country and sought support of the general public and local communities.
The official said that the government will get support of parliamentarians, media persons and ulema for success of this campaign.
He said the main focus of the campaign will be administering anti-polio drops to children living in high risk areas. Polio vaccine used in the country is safe and effective and is produced internationally while World Health Organization (WHO) has approved its quality, he stated.
He said the vaccine is the same that has been used in most of the world to eradicate polio including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
The official was of the view that UN agencies, partners, donor governments, the private sector and foundations have extended all possible support to ensure that the necessary resources are available to ensure making the country polio free.
