India were finally knocked out of the triseries as Sri Lanka brought a heart-breaking end to their nervous wait with a nail-biting nine-run victory over Australia in the last over of a must-win contest on Friday.
Chasing 239 to win, Australia were bowled out for 230 in Melbourne, with Lasith Malinga taking 4-49.
Earlier, Dan Christian (5-31) became the fourth Australian to take an ODI hat-trick as Sri Lanka totalled 238.
Australia will meet Sri Lanka in a best-of-three final, starting on Sunday.
