Mecca 5th July 2016 : Saudi media has reported that Shawwal Moon has been sighted today in the Saudi Arabia, hence, Eid Al Fitr will be marked on Wednesday, July 6.
Earlier, the committees in the UAE and Saudi Arabia began their meeting after Maghreb prayer to witness the Eid Al Fitr Crescent.
The UAE committee is meeting at the Judiciary Department building in Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi, Minister of Justice to confirm the start of the month of Shawwal, which will mark the end of Ramadan and start of Eid Al Fitr.
All the Shariah courts across the country have been asked to look out for the Crescent moon and inform the committee.
After collecting all the evidences for moon-sighting from different corners of the country, the announcement is expected around 9pm.
In Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has also asked Muslims in the kingdom to report sighting of the Crescent to the authorities so that any announcement can be made for Eid Al Fitr.
Most of the Muslims in the Western countries follow Saudi Arabia for Hijri calendar, hence begin and end the holy month of Ramadan on the same dates.
Eid likely on July 6 – Sharjah Centre for Astronomy
Eid Al Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, will likely be on Wednesday, July 6, according to a UAE astronomer.“Wednesday, July 6, will be the start of the month of Shawal. It is impossible to see the Crescent on Monday night. So Eid Al Fitr will start on Wednesday,” he said.
