The legendary comedian Safirullah Siddiqui popularly known as Lehri passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness Thursday morning.
According to the reports, he has been on ventilator since last few days. After consensus with his family members, ventilator has been removed. He was suffering from Lungs and Kidney diseases.
Lehri filmy career started on 1950. In his career, he performed in 225 films and won ‘Nigar Award’ 12 times. Life time achievement award was awarded to Lehri. In 1963, he won first award.
Between 1963 and 1986, Lehri won several award other than Nigar award. Lehri’s first film “Anokhi” was released in 1956 and his last film was dhanak released in 1986.
His renowned films are “Tum mily piyar mila”, “Bhahadur”, “Noukar” and “baharen phir ayen gee”.
Family sources said that Lehri funeral prayers will be offered in Baitul Mukarram mosque, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad Khan, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon and MQM chief Altaf Hussian condoled over his demise.
