Pakistan win 3rd asian champions trophy 2013

Pakistan have won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy after defeating Japan by 3-1 at Green Stadium, Kakamigahara, Japan.

The green-shirts won the trophy for the second consecutive time. Haseem Khan, Rizwan Senior and Hammad Butt scored one goal each in the second half of the final match.

Pakistan were the highest-ranked team in the competition as world number eight, while India (11th) and Malaysia (13th) were also touted as the teams to beat before the tournament.

Pakistan led the group stage with 15 points whereas Japan gathered 10 points to qualify for the final; they both won three out of their five matches.

Following are the results of Pakistan matches in the tournament:

1st match: Pakistan beat Oman by 8-0

2nd match: Pakistan beat China by 5-1

3rd match: Pakistan beat Malaysia by 1-0

4th match: Pakistan beat beat Indian by 5-4

5th match: Tied with Japan.

6th match: Pakistan beat Japan by 3-1
